Dr. Julie Gilchrist is a pediatrician and researcher who recently retired after more than 20 years with CDC’s Injury Center. She graduated from Rice University, attended UT Southwestern Medical School and completed her pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She came to CDC in 1997 as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer. In her time at the Injury Center, Dr. Gilchrist was responsible for research and programmatic efforts to prevent common childhood injuries such as drowning, concussion and other sports injuries. She is now consulting with CDC’s National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities to assist with their efforts to prevent neonatal abstinence syndrome.
